Today you will have the hour to complete FA7. Make sure to follow the instructions correctly as you complete the assignment.
I also wanted to remind you to post your definitions (if you have any) on the wikispaces page for Week 9 or Week 10. Week 9 definitions are not due until next Tuesday (Apr. 29) and week 10 definitions are not due until the following Tuesday - May 6.
If you complete the formatting activity in class today and you have a missing assignment you need to get your missing work done and handed in for a grade. If you are all done with everything you may go to the practice websites.

Internet Safety
Please continue to work on your Internet Safety project with your partner if you have not yet completed your 4 topics. There have been several people asking about length - there is no minimum or maximum time that your video (or videos) need to be - you just need to clearly explain 4 of the topics of Internet Safety.
If you are done with your project today I want you to go to the practice websites on the blog - you will use your speed skin as you type.

Vocab quiz #3; Caps Lock key, Question Mark key, and Tab key
Today we will review at the beginning of the hour for vocab quiz #3.
After the quiz, if you did not finish yesterday's assignment you need to complete it and send it to me.
If you are done with both please open Microsoft Word and turn to page 17. You'll need to type lines 1-3 on 8B using the Caps Lock key (L4) once; after you complete those lines you need to complete lines 4-6 once on 8B - here you will learn the question mark key (Left Shift + R4).
Once you have completed the above lines go to 8C and complete each of those lines once. In this section you will learn to use the TAB key (L4) - a TAB allows you to move your cursor to a preset position on the line of writing. For you, as you will see when you type these lines, the preset position is 1/2" from the left margin.
After completing all of these lines raise your hand and I will come and check your work. Then you may go to any of the practice sites listed on the Website Resources page of the blog. Make sure to work with your speed skin on your keyboard for the entire hour!

Learn Z and colon; practice websites
Today we are going to tackle the last letter of the alphabet...and also the last letter that we need to learn - the Z (L4). Additionally, we will also learn the colon (Shift + R4).
After learning these two keys we will reward ourselves for our hard work on learning all of the keys to the letters of the alphabet by using the practice websites on the blog.

Internet Safety project
Today will be the last day, in class, that you will have to complete your project. Because we are going to embed your video on your blog, you actually will have through at least tomorrow to get it done. Since we have not yet created your blog you obviously cannot put your project on your blog. Once we create your blog (that's what we'll do on Tuesday) then you will be able to embed your movie on your blog...but since that won't be until at least Wednesday you will still have a little time outside of class to work on your movie if needed.
If you are done with your project you need to choose one of the practice websites and practice. Make sure to use your speed skin while you are practicing!
**New missing assignments lists have been posted! If you have a missing assignment it currently is listed as a 0 on Skyward. If you want to change that you will need to complete the missing assignment before Friday and get it submitted. If your missing assignment is a vocab quiz that must be completed in my room - you may NOT complete these at home!

Review all keys; Vocab list #3
**REMINDER - if you are responsible for defining vocab words on the wikispaces page you should do that no later than Wednesday night!!
KEEP YOUR SPEED SKIN ON YOUR KEYBOARD TODAY!
Today you are going to review all of the keys that you have learned so far by typing lines 1-10 in Lesson 7C, page 15. After completing those lines then you need to type lines 1-6 in Lesson 7D, page 16. When keying the colon, use the left shift key + R4 on the semicolon key. You should space twice after a colon.
After completing those lines turn to page 17 and type lines 1-6 on Lesson 8B once. Use your L4 finger on the Caps Lock key, and use the left shift key + R4 for the question mark - again make sure to space twice after the question mark just as you did with the colon.
When you have completed this please raise your hand before moving on so the sub can check your work.
After completing the lines listed above, you may go to the following website and continue to practice the keyboard:

Vocab quiz #6; finish FA2; Timed writing
From now until the end of the year your speed skin will be on the keyboard. You know all of the letters and numbers (as well as most of the symbols - but those are rarely used) so there is no need to look at your keyboard to find a letter or number.
We will take vocab quiz #6 after reviewing for several minutes.
I know many of you did not get FA2 done yesterday. But, there were also many of you who spent too much time randomly looking up movies and actors on imdb.com, so you wasted a lot of the time that should have been used for completing your work. You will need to be more diligent in getting your formatting activities done in the allotted time from now on.
If you did not get your FA2 done yesterday, after the quiz you need to get that done. Same with the timed writing - if you didn't hand it in yesterday get that done today and handed in so it can be graded. Here is the link to the timed writings page: freetypinggame.net
When you are doing your timed writing you need to click on the "Certificate Typing Test" on the Test page - otherwise you will not be able to print out the typing certificate that will have the information that I can use to get your timed writing graded.
If you have not yet submitted to me your Internet Safety video (through email) from your blog you will need to get that done today as well.
If you are done with all of the above, you may go to either the Free typing games website or the Free online games website

End of Week #2
We have covered a lot of territory in the couple of weeks we have been in class. Today we are going to use as a practice day - there will be no learning of new keys.
To start, what I want you to do is pick 2 lines from each of pages 5-9 (excluding sections 2E and 3F) and type them in Word.
Once you have completed these 10 lines, then you need to go to the Sense Language website listed on the Website Resources page on the blog. Once you get to the website you will need to click on "Keyboarding Tutorials". Next, click on "Lessons". Please do each of the first 5 lessons listed here.
If you get done with these and there is still time left in class, you can choose any of the practice websites listed on the Website Resources page. BUT!!, you must keep your speed skin on the keyboard and you must be on one of the Website Resource practice sites.
If you would rather practice by typing something out of the book, then you are welcome to go back to Word and type lines from the book.

FA1/saving documents; reflection on blog
There are several things we need to cover today in class:
- Your crossword puzzle is due right now - please hand it in and make sure your name is at the top of your paper.
- Vocabulary for next week - everyone who is responsible for vocabulary for the week of Oct. 1 should have their words and should be either researching a definition or posting their definition(s) to the wikispaces page. Your definitions should be posted no later than next Tuesday.
- Saving documents - it is critically important that when you save your documents that you do NOT delete the extension to the document. I will show you what this means in class today. Also, I recommend saving everything to your flash drive. This way you can take what you have done with you without having to worry about trying to access the school server.
- After completing this, you need to complete your reflection for this week on your blog. Enter your newest reflection at the top. Enter the title in this method: "Week of Sept. 24". I will show you how to do this as well.
- After completing your reflection I want you to practice keying on the keyboard. If you go the website resources page on the blog you will find several different websites that you can use to practice with. I don't care which website you choose (in fact, if you want you can move from one website to another during the hour), but you need to practice and we are going to use the games on these websites for practice. One note about the websites - you MUST! stay on the websites that are listed on the website resources page.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Finish Xtranormal movie; create your blog; practice
REMINDER - Friday is the vocab quiz over word list #2.
You will have the entire hour today to complete your movie in Xtranormal. As I have mentioned several times...use the rubric on the Internet Safety page to guide you in completing the movie in a fashion that will help you earn the maximum points for this assignment. Once you are done with your movie, and you are absolutely sure that you are done editing, you may publish your movie. *Caution* - once you publish your movie you can no longer make any changes to it!! You need to have your movie done and published before tomorrow's class period - we will be going over how to embed your movie on your blog.
Which leads me to the next item - you need to create your own blog. Below is a video that will guide you in creating a blog on Blogger (which is where the class blog is "housed"). It really is not a difficult process, but it is something that everyone will need to do. If you have a Google account (which all of you do), creating your own blog is pretty simple.
In addition, here are 2 links that may also help you get your blog up and running:
Blogger instructions
About.com instructions to create a blog
Once you have finished creating your blog (some of you completed this yesterday so you are starting at this point), you have practice to do in Word. Here's what you need to do:
P. 6, 2E, all lines
P. 7, 3C, lines 3-8
P. 8, 3E, lines 7-10
If you get this done print it out and show me. Then you can go to the following website to practice:
Free Typing Games. While there you should ONLY! be working on Lessons of keys that we have learned so far.

New keys; Powerpoint
To start off the day open up Powerpoint. I want to quickly discuss this software so everyone has an idea of what Powerpoint is before the quiz on Friday.
Today will be another day of learning the keys on the keyboard. As I said earlier this week, just because we are done with all of the letters does not mean we are done with learning the keyboard. We still have quite a bit to learn - symbols, numbers, and the keypad to be specific.
Today we will review from yesterday (the Z and the : ) on page 16, and then we will introduce the Caps Lock key (L4), the Question Mark key (Left Shift key + R4), and the Tab key (L4) on page 17.
After completing this we will be going to the following website to practice:

Vocab Quiz #5 - Internet #1
Take the first couple of minutes today to review for the vocab quiz. When we are ready to take the quiz, we will go to www.classmarker.com. If you haven't bookmarked this website yet, please do so now.
After we take the quiz you can get back with your partner and complete the Logo work with your REPEAT statement assignment. This is due today! Please make sure to have everyone's name who is in the group on the sheet of paper when you hand it in!
If you are done with the Logo assignment, you have three choices:
- If you haven't handed in the crossword puzzle yet get that done and handed in now. It is late so you'll lose 10% (or .5 points) - but losing 10% beats getting a zero on the assignment.
- Complete the discussion board assignment on www.edmodo.com (again, bookmark this website if you haven't already done so). Answer this prompt: What was the importance of learning about the Rainforest? In addition, discuss what animal you did your research on, and what you learned about "your" animal. This discussion post will be due on Thursday, Oct. 27th at midnight.
Remember that you must post your original response and then you must also reply to 2 of your classmates. Your responses should create more discussion and should not be something like - "I agree", "Great post", "I like the way you think", etc. - Practice websites - these are located on the blog by going to the Website resources page on the blog, then choosing the practice website of your choice.
Monday, October 17
Make up day
Today will be a make-up day for those who have missing assignments (please see the board on the wall to see if you have missing assignments!). If you do have a missing assignment you will have the entire hour to work on whatever assignment you need to complete.
If you have all of your assignments completed, here is what you need to do next:
Open Microsoft Word, type all lines in 14B, p. 31 twice.
Type all lines in 14D (lines 1-8) twice. Here you will learn the 3 (left middle/2nd finger), the 6 (right index, 1st finger), and the 2 (left 3rd/ring finger).
After learning the last 3 numbers, open Logo and create the following shapes: equilateral triangle, square, rectangle, and pentagon (remember a pentagon has 5 equal angles, and a total turtle trip is equal to 360 degrees - using that information you should be able to figure out what the angle of your turns needs to be). Write down (you can use a Word document so you can save it) the instructions - we'll go over these tomorrow.
The crossword puzzle is due Thursday of this week.
The vocab list for this week is all about the Internet - the quiz will be Friday, Oct. 21. This will be the first of 3 vocab lists that are related to the Internet. People who are responsible for defining words are as follows:
3rd hour: KatherineB, LoganC, EthanK, EmmaL, AndrewR, DakodaV
4th hour: AnthonyB, DestinyL, MorganM, TateN, HannahS, ShelbyW
6th hour: LindyC, HaleeG, BrileyK, KimberM, MarshallR, KendraS
7th hour: ScottF, FrejaH, AJM, ElliottM, LoganW
8th hour: BritnyB, SydneyH, JacobH, LukeJ, CalebP, RyanW
Remember, only one person can be posting to the wiki page at a time, so this is the procedure we are going to adopt to get this part of class completed: 1. As a group, decide who is defining which words; 2. the first person listed will enter their words that they have chosen to define on the wiki; 3. once the first person has their words defined, they will immediately contact the second person on the list and let them know, then the second person defines their words and posts them on the wiki page, and after completing their part they tell the third person, and so on; 4. anyone posting a link to a website, an image, or a video that helps to explain their selected vocab word (or words) will receive 1 extra credit point for that week (remember, if you need help remembering how this works let me know it's really easy and only takes a minute). Note - the additional information for extra credit must be useful in helping to describe the vocab word. In other words, if you include an image that has nothing to do with the vocab word you will not get extra credit.
If you get everything done you may go to the practice websites and practice your keying skill. Try practicing some numbers to see how you do!

Learning numbers
Before you get comfortable, check the board to see if your name is listed with an assignment (or assignmentS) that is missing. If so, you have until Friday to get it completed and handed in before it becomes a zero!
Next, everyone needs to check their gmail. I have sent several of you messages regarding formatting assignments that will need to be emailed to me again. For most of you that have received an email from me saying you need to resubmit your assignment, the problem is that you are NOT saving your document with an extension. Remember, all files must have an extension in order for the computer to be able to open the document in the correct program (for Word that extension is .doc). See image below:
Also, you should save all of your documents into the Computer Applications folder that we created earlier in the semester (not the "FORMATTING ACTIVITIES" folder you see here).
Today we will learn the 4 (left index/1st finger), 0 (right little/4th finger), 5 (left index/1st finger) , and 7 (right index/1st finger). After learning these four numbers today we will have some time to work on missing assignments, but not a lot of time.
For those who have no missing assignments, you'll want to go to the Website Resources page and choose a practice website to practice on once we get done with learning the new number keys.

Vocab words; Formatting Activity #2
The first thing that we are going to do today is watch a video I have created on the various items in Word. These will all be on the vocab quiz tomorrow, so they will be important for you to remember when it comes time for the quiz.
After watching the video you will be working on Formatting Activity 2. This should not take real long, but it is EXTREMELY important that you follow the directions. If you do not follow the directions you are not going to do well on this assignment. Also, this formatting activity needs to be printed out, and when you print it out you should have 2 pages. The instructions tell you which page goes on top and which page goes on bottom.
Formatting Activity 2
If you get done before the hour is over, you may go to one of these websites and practice:
Barracuda
Foggies
Rain
Please make sure to keep your speedskin on your keyboard while you are keying.

- The first thing we will accomplish today is completing the "Correct Fingers" assignment at Classmarker. I will have to give you your username and password - so this is again another username and password that you will have to remember. Therefore, we will use Google docs after we are done with the assignment to create a password "account".
- Google Docs - this is a great place you can use to save all your passwords for the various different websites that you will register for. This is not something that you have to do, but as I will show you it is a great way to store your passwords. What I really like is that I can access this anywhere there is an Internet connection - including using a smartphone if you have one. (the below picture is a link - when you click on it it will open in a new window)
- Here are several websites that you can use to create a password. These are convenient if you just want a quick solution to a password - or if you're just tired of trying to think of a clever password! Password BirdPass Plex Password Generator Strong Password Generator
- The rest of the day will be used practicing the keys we have learned. Here are the websites that you can use to practice (and you can also obviously use these at home if you wish to): Free Typing GamesFree Online Typing Games - online tutor Power Typing lessons Typing Web tutor
All of these websites are located on the Website Resources page on the blog- therefore they are available for you to use at home if you need to practice.
