FA5 completion

This is a vocab week, so if you have definitions to post on the Wiki spaces page you will need to get that done by tomorrow night.  Remember that tomorrow is a half day of school, so getting that done tonight may be to your advantage.

Some people were unable to complete FA5 on Friday, so if you are one of those people you will have time today in class to get that done.  As a reminder make sure that you have your speed skin on your keyboard while you are working.  This formatting activity should be printed and signed before you hand it in.

Once you have completed FA5 you need to complete the green handout that has the drills we type in Excel.  You need to complete all 6 drills in Excel just as we have done in the past.  Once you have completed all of the drills then you can go to the Free Typing Games website and complete at least 3 of the speed tests - today you should use the #26 or #27 classic tales as your speed test.  When you complete the speed test write your score on the poster sheet on the wall next to your name (Sharpies are on my desk).

When you get done with the speed tests there is a handout on my desk that you need to type in Microsoft Word.  This is for practice but you should try to get as much done as you can.

Wednesday, October 15

Keypad numbers

We will start today with a review of the numbers that we learned yesterday.  After reviewing we will add in the other numbers of the keypad by using two additional handouts.

If there is time we will continue with the speed tournament.  Some people have already been eliminated, and other people are at a point where they have to wait for someone else to get done before they can compete.  Therefore, just like last time not everyone will be competing today.

Wednesday, March 26

Keypad review; FA3

As a reminder, your crossword is due by Friday - if you have yours done you can hand it in now.  Also, for those of you who have vocab definitions for next week please make sure to visit the Wiki spaces page outside of class and get your definitions entered.

Today we will review all of the keys on the keypad to start the day.

Once we get done with our review, we will be learning how to add Headers and Footers into a Microsoft Word document.  Generally the Header and Footer area is reserved for such things as page numbers, an author's name, or possibly the Section or Chapter that a page is in (or other possible reasons).  You will be entering information into the header and footer sections of a document and formatting what you enter.

Tuesday, March 25

Keypad practice and new keys

We will review the keys that we learned yesterday on the key pad.  Once we are done with the review we will learn the other numbers on the keypad.

And then...we will be completely done with learning keys on the keyboard!

Wednesday, October 30

Learn 1, 2, 3, 0, and . on keypad; FA4

**REMINDER - VOCAB WORDS NEEDS TO BE DEFINED ON THE WIKI SPACES PAGE BY TONIGHT!!**

To start today we will complete the last part of learning the keypad - we will use another handout today to learn the 1, 2, 3, 0, and period.

After completing the keypad work we are going to learn how to set tabs in Word, and then you'll be working on FA4, which is embedded below.

Tuesday, October 29

RSS video; more keypad; FA4

As a reminder to all of you who are responsible for vocab words for this week, you need to have your words posted on the wiki spaces page by tomorrow night.    Here is a video to help you better understand what RSS is:

After watching the video we will again be working with the keypad for part of class.  Today we will add the 7, 8, and 9 to the other numbers we learned yesterday (the 4, 5, and 6).  I will have another handout for you to work with.

After completing the handout you will be working with a partner on a small in-class "project".  This won't be for a grade, but will be for keying practice.  We will be using the FreeTypingGame website first, then after that we will go to the TypeRacer website.

Monday, October 28

Learning the keypad; keyboard review

Today we are going to start to learn how to use the keypad (the set of numbers out to the right hand side of the keyboard).  To use the keypad you will only use your right hand (sorry for those of you who are left-handed).    There is a home row for the keypad - I will explain that to you today as well.

After working on the first set of numbers on the keypad we will practice the keyboard.  We will start by going to the PowerTyping website and doing Lessons 5, 6, and 10.

Once you have completed those lessons, you need to go to the Good Typing website and complete the typing speed test there.  You need to get at least 15 words per minute before you can move on to the next step.  Once you get 15 words per minute in your test, raise your hand and let me see it so I know you have completed this part of today's assignment.

Next, go to the Sense Language website and go through each of the Lessons on the website.  There are 16 of these lessons that will help you to practice your keying.

Thursday, March 21

Review keypad; keyboarding baseball

We will review all of the keys that we have learned thus far on the keypad.

After reviewing, it will be keyboarding baseball!

**REMEMBER...CROSSWORD PUZZLE IS DUE TOMORROW!**

Thursday, December 13

Keypad; Alice

YOU HAVE ONE WEEK TO COMPLETE YOUR PODCAST!!  MAKE SURE TO SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH A LINK TO YOUR BLOG SO I CAN LISTEN TO YOUR PODCAST ON YOUR BLOG.  THIS IS DUE NEXT THURSDAY (DEC. 20).

To begin with today you need to type, using the keypad numbers, the green handout in Excel.  Remember how we did this before - go all the way down column A, then do column B, then column C, and so on.

Once you complete the keypad work you need to complete any missing assignments you have not yet turned in.  If you are done with all assignments up to this point you may work in Alice and complete the Fish Fairy world (the link is below)

Fish Fairy World

If you finish the Fish Fairy World, at the end of the instructions there is a page that says "Exercises" at the top - complete the steps listed on this page (there are 4).

Tuesday, December 4

MP3 files; WAV files; keypad

*Remember to post your definitions to the wikispaces page by tonight if it is your week to do so!

**I have already had a two students complete and turn in their podcast - as I said yesterday it doesn't take much time to complete if you just sit down and do it.  One student completed it here at school; another one completed it at home and sent it to me.  This is your reminder to get yours done as soon as you can!

After watching the videos we will be working again in Excel.  Today we will be reviewing the 1, 4, and 7 from yesterday, and then also we will be learning the other keys.

Monday, December 3

Multimedia vocab list; streaming video; podcast; keypad

The new list of vocab words has been posted on the wikispaces page.  This is week #9 - MULTIMEDIA/GRAPHICS #1.  All of these words are related to either multimedia and/or graphics.  Please have your definitions posted by Tuesday night.

Here is our first look at one of the vocab words for this week (Streaming Video):

One of the vocab words for this week is PODCAST.  You will be creating a podcast using the website  called VOCAROO.  I will be showing you today how you can create a very simple podcast; you will be doing this on your own OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME!!! You will have the rest of the semester to complete this project.  However, I highly recommend that you get this done as soon as you can...if you wait until later you will forget and/or not get it done.

The instructions for completing the podcast are as follows:
  1. You will use the Vocaroo website to create your podcast, and you will need to make sure that the computer you use has a functioning microphone (all of the computers here at school in the labs and the library have functioning microphones).
  2. The podcast will be you reciting a famous historical speech.  You can choose any speech you want from one of the 3 following websites:
    1. Famous quotes
    2. American Rhetoric
    3. History Place Speeches
  3. The podcast ONLY needs to be 1 minute in length; therefore, depending on the speech you choose, you may not have to read the entire speech.
  4. After creating the podcast you will embed your podcast on your blog.
  5. Once your podcast has been embedded on your blog you will need to send me an email with a link to your blog so I can listen and grade your podcast.
The last thing we are going to do today is start learning the keypad.  We will use Excel when we are learning the keypad.
