STUDENT CREATION

Rainforest Reflections:

"I honestly thought that this was a great unit, and a great way to mix learning and fun. I learned soooooooooo much about other rainforest animals. People, I didn't know that ELECTRIC EELS swam in the Amazon! ELECTRIC EELS!!! AMAZON!!! (Fun fact) The poison dart frog is immune to fungal infections due to the poison on their back. (I researched it, I should know) There was only two beefs I had with the unit:1: I wished that we could spend more time in the rainforest. (and)2: It rained at the Brookfield Zoo. (but I had an umbrella.) Well, that's all, folks!"

"During the rainforest unit I liked the animal research project that we did in science. I researched the Toucan and made a poster to present it. It was fun learning about all the animals that everyone did. In language Arts we read a book called Journey Of The Red-Eyed-Tree-Frog in a group and then we had to write down all of the animals that contributed to the story. We also read a magazine on the rainforest and then did a worksheet on it. In Geography we learned about the layers, what makes a rainforest a  rainforest, and pretty much all of its physical features. I loved the rainforest rally, it was so much fun! The animals that the zoo brought in were awesome! I have never seen a real armadillo before! Going to Brookfield Zoo was amazing! I had so much fun! Some of the animals I had never seen before! The rainforest unit was the best!"

"What I liked about the Brookfield Zoo was getting to learn interesting facts about the animals. I liked that we got to see the animals. It was really interesting to see how the animals react to other things and animals. What I didn't like was you had to do the some of the research on the computers. I also didn't like it when you had to research a specific layer or animal on the rain forest project. I didn't like it because we had to use a specific website to research the animal that you are doing for the project. What I also didn't like was when it rained all day yesterday."

"I did not like the Rainforest Unit. I did not like the Rainforest unit because it wasn't enjoyable to learn about. I'm not saying I didn't like learning about the animals, I loved the animals and I loved going to Brookfield Zoo and seeing all the animals. The worst part of it all was reading the book and doing the packet and learning about all the animals. I just wanted to enjoy looking at the adorable animals, especially the monkeys! I did enjoy researching the jaguar! The jaguar is a unique animal. The jaguar is unique because it doesn't live on the Forest Floor it also lives in the Understory. It can eat so many things like monkeys, and birds. I would change a lot of things about the Rainforest Unit. I would change the the groups we had to being with all our friends and have a voted chaperone. Also, I would change the sundaes that we ate to bring your own ingredients. That is what I think about the Rainforest Unit."

"Well I liked most of the rainforest unit, but I didn't like some of it. The first part I liked was learning about the different animals and plants in the rainforests. Like the sugar gliders and sloths and the Cocoa tree and the Buttress roots. The part I didn't like about the unit was the fact we had so many papers, because I'm bad at being organized. Also I didn't like that there was so many things we had to memorize, which I'm not very good at. Well unless the facts are about animals, specifically reptiles!
The part of the unit where we went to the zoo was enjoyable for the most part. When we left in the morning on the charter busses it was so exciting for me, because it had been a year since I last went to Brookfield Zoo. I got to sit by my friends Emma, Chris, Masson, the whole time. It was so much fun Then when we got there we went and ate lunch by the fountain. After lunch we went to tropic word and did our math project about the Silver Back Gorillas. When we were there I saw my friends Kaleb, Chelsea, and Victoria. Afterwards we walked around for a while at the bear exhibit. When we got done there we went to the gift shop and I got two amazing unicorn stuffed animals. One is a keychain and the other one is a small stuffed animal. They have polka dots and they have purple hooves and mane and tail. The part I didn't like was that I didn't get to see any geckos at the zoo because they were out of their cages, because the cages were getting cleaned. Wich made me sad because geckos are my favorite animal ever! I also didn't like the trip because it was cold and raining all day. That is my reflection on the Rainforest unit."

" For the past 9 weeks we have been studying the rainforest. The first thing we did was read a magazine and fill out a worksheet along with it. Then we studied the individual layers of the rainforest with groups. Along with studying the layers we made a poster full of pictures and information about each layer. This was in Language Arts. I think this part was very interesting because we learned what kind of plants, animals, and tribes etc.

Then next in science we did a project. We had a certain animal that we had to choose. I choose a Kinkajou and presented a poster. I thought this project was really fun because it was very easy. Also we got to find information about any animal and put it a poster and make it creative.

Next we had a rainforest rally. We got to play Rainforest bingo, eat ice cream, watch jungle book, and see animals from our zoo. I thought that so far this was the best! This day was a lot of fun!

Then to top everything else we toke a trip to the Brookfield Zoo. This was so fun. From the bus ride to getting to see the animals. To bad it was rainy. It was still one of the best field trips ever"

"There were many things that I liked and also disliked about the rainforest unit. My favorite part of the unit was definitely the field trip. It was too bad though that it was raining almost the entire time at Brookfield Zoo, but there were still many animals out to see.  I also enjoyed all of the days when all that we did was watch movies and also the day that we had the rainforest rally, watched The Jungle Book, and Niabi Zoo brought many animals to the school. There was one thing that I didn't like about the unit though. That was the book project because I though that the book was boring. I still had a great time throughout the unit!"

"The past few weeks learning about the rainforest have been a lot of fun and we even had our own rainforest in the large group room.  Some things we learned were that one half of worlds animals and insects live on the rainforest.  I thought that it was interesting that there was so many different species of animals and different kinds of the same animal.  For example there  are over  40 different types of toucans.  I think the animal I researched was very unique and different from the other birds in the rainforest.  The ways i think it is different is that they have about 8 inch bills, their bill can be a variety of colors, and they eat fruit and insects.  When we went to Brookfield Zoo I really enjoyed seeing the dolphins, giraffes, and the penguins. Things i really didn't enjoy was seeing the snakes and other scaled animals. when we were there it rained a lot so we all got really wet which most of the student, teachers, and volunteers didn't like.  Over all I really liked learning about the rainforest."

"What I liked:
I liked the animal research, because I like making Keynotes and the animal I researched* I really like. I also liked the zoo trip because I liked seeing all the animals. Overall I liked almost everything about this unit.

* Ring-Tailed Lemur

What I learned about the rain forest:

I learned that in the rain forest the undergrowth isn't super thick but is relatively clear because there is little light and plants don't grow well. And all the dead matter decomposes really fast. I also learned that rain-forests have 90% of Earth's primates and 80% of the Earth's insects. The most interesting thing I learned though is that the extinction of one species could easily harm the rain-forest greatly.
What I did not like:

I did not like the fact that 2 people on the bus were extremely annoying. I also did not like was the choice of the movie for the Rain Forest Rally

What I would change:

I would change the movie we watch to something other than Jungle Book and I would change the way of dealing with the annoying people, I would make it so the very back seats were empty so if there were annoying people they would get put back there away from the other people."

"I didn't like the rainforest that much because I don't like the rainforest. I don't like the rain forest because it was boring. The reasons I don't like the rainforest is how it looks. I don't like the animals that live in the rainforest it just makes me so bored. the only thing I did like was the Emergent layer of the rainforest. The reason I liked that because it is so high up in the air. Something intresting about the rainforest is that the forest floor barely gets any light. The sugar glider can glider up to 150 feet. I liked all the animals at the Brookfeild zoo it was great. I would change about the unit is it not to be so long"

"For the past nine weeks we have been learning about the rainforests of the world, mainly the tropical ones. One thing I liked while I was learning about the rainforest was that we got to choose an animal from the rainforest and research it. I choose a Chimpanzee and I loved researching the animal. Also while we were learning about the rainforest we took a field trip to the Brookfield Zoo. I loved seeing all  the animals in their habitats, however I have already seen all the animals a lot at other zoos, it wasn't all that exciting. I also wasn't a big fan of the weather, even though I know you can't do anything about that, I still wasn't happy that it rained. Another thing I didn't really like was the amount of time we were at the zoo itself. I didn't like the time we were at the zoo because it felt like I was ready to leave and we already saw all the animals with about 35 minutes left. On a positive note I enjoyed the fact that we got out  of school for a day! I also loved the bus even though the bus ride felt really long it was fun to sit with my friends and to eat snacks and just chill and watch the movie (even though I didn't watch the movie) it was still really fun. Other than the bus ride and just getting out of school I didn't really enjoy the field trip. I also enjoyed our Rain Forest Rally we had! Overall I enjoyed all of the rain forest unit."

"I think that the Rainforest unit was really cool and exciting... well the field trip part.
I liked the animal project for Science. I thought that using Power Point was a really cool option and we should do that more often. My favorite exhibit was the seals because they were really playful and fun.
I didn't really like the part where we had to read the book about the red eye tree frog because we arent 3 so why should we have to read this book"
